Gnome Adventure Hike - Kroger Wetlands - Sunday

The gnomes are making an appearance on their home trails of the Kroger Wetlands. Family friendly, this hike has options for a .6 mile or 1 mile. While on the trail be on the lookout for different types of local wildlife and flora (along with some Gnomes!).

The hike is self guided but leaders will be on-site to provide information and trail maps.

Note: Please arrive a few minutes early for check in with hike leaders.

Explore Broughton's Nature & Wildlife Education Area with a hike leader on a 3 to 4.5 mile hike. Hikers will have the option of exploring the Broughton Nature & Wildlife Education Area or the new Rudolph Family Park trails on each day as well as learn about other uses and recreation opportunities on these properties.

Depending on the length, hikes will last 1.5 to 2.5 hours. Participants are urged to wear comfortable footwear or hiking shoes/boots, carry drinking water, and be prepared for the physical challenges posed by hiking on uneven trails and elevation changes.

As an added bonus, hikers may bring their own leashed well-behaved dogs as well to enjoy this beautiful hike.

Note: Please arrive a few minutes early to check in with hike leaders..

The 14th Annual Tortoise & Hare World Championship

An RTA tradition sponsored by the River Valley Mountain Bike Association !

Two-person teams on bicycles face off! One team member travels as fast as possible while the other travels as slow as possible. The "turtle" on each team is restricted to a small area and once started, cannot put their feet on the ground. The "hare" will simultaneously race around a short circle track with obstacles while riding a children's bike!

Teams are eliminated if the Tortoise puts their foot down or leaves the Tortoise box. Time is restricted to a maximum on 3 minutes. If teams make it to 3 minutes than those with the most laps wins!

WORLD championship starts immediately following the bike parade.

Stop by the festival HQ to sign up --- Space is limited!

Trophy goes to the World Champions.

The Rivers, Trails, and Ales Festival marks its fourteenth year in 2024. The Ales side of RTA is an ever-growing part of the festival’s overall interest. As this segment continues to grow, we are once again hosting Marietta, OH’s largest beer fest!

This year’s beer fest will be open to 500 attendees and lots of great beer! Participants can look forward to beer from the following breweries from around our part of the state (breweries subject to change without notice):

The Memorial Health System presents Tai Chi Qi Gong (Tai Chi Easy) for this year's RTA Fest. Instructor Debbie will lead a a FREE class that uses simplified Tai Chi based on the four recognized styles of Tai Chi.

Tai Chi can improve quality of life for all individuals, whether well or unwell, including those dealing with:

Guided Pollinator Tour

Meet at the Civil War Soldier Monument

New for RTA, we would like to invite you to join in a guided pollinator walk through parts of Marietta & Harmar. Starting at the Civil War soldier monument near Front and Putnam, the tour offers two options. The first is the Harmar loop of approximately 1 mile and an extension along the East Muskingum Park River Trail to Knox Park and back, for a total distance of 1.8 miles.

The Harmar loop begins at the monument and includes stops at the RESolve Studios "Tin Forest" Garden, Harmar Bridge Butterfly Garden, Fort Street Pollinator Habitat, and future Memorial Garden site. At this point, those who wish can explore the shops, museums, and restaurants in Historic Harmar Village or recross the river.

The downtown loop starts at the monument again and takes the river trail to the Knox Park Butterfly garden, then returns to the RTA headquarters in East Muskingum Park. Along the route you'll have the opportunity to see and learn about many types of native flowers, trees, pollinators, and the other life forms that depend on them.

A comfortable space for moms and babies to nurse/feed, change and chill during the festival. The tent will be set up Friday at noon and will be available through the end of beer fest/Adventure expo on Saturday night.

Other activities during the expo include prenatal prehabbing movements, post-partum rehab movements, diastasis assessments, and general prenatal/post-partum information.

For the kiddos during the adventure expo: pint-sized workout equipment for the little ones! They can try pull ups, a mini treadmill, bike, and more!

The MOV'n Dragons of the Mid-Ohio Valley, Marietta's dragon boat team, will be offering an opportunity for the public to view the dragon boat during the RTA Festival. Enjoy an exhibition of one of the world's oldest sports at the Broughton Boathouse, 814 Gilman Avenue, Marietta. Witness the MOV'n Dragons as they display their boat and demonstrate the ancient art of Dragon Boating. Those interested in learning about Dragon boating can watch from the shoreline or from their own canoe or kayak.

A dragon boat is 40 feet long and can hold 20 paddlers sitting in pairs. A drummer sits in front, and a steersperson is in the back keeping the boat on course.

Dragon Boating originated in China more than 2000 years ago and today is a popular sport worldwide. The MOV'n Dragons have been boating on the Muskingum River for the past 16 years and honor the memory of their founder, Gretchen Feldmaier. We welcome all women over the age of 18 to join us in "Awakening the Dragon within us".
