Paddle from Lowell to Marietta and experience going through a historic hand operated lock. This will be a 12-to-14-mile trip on the Muskingum River for hardy paddlers. The Muskingum River is a slow-moving river so expect to paddle the long distance in warm temperatures.
Meet at 9 a.m. at the Lowell put-in on Buell Island by the Lock (N on SR 60 to Lowell, left on bridge, the next right onto Buell Island.
Parking is limited so it is recommended to ride in groups to the put in.
First take out is available on the Indian Acres boat ramp (12 miles). The next take-out is available at the Williamstown boat ramp (14 miles).

Volunteers will be out paddling on the river, but this paddle is at your own pace. You may paddle in groups or on your own.
There will be a break option before traversing the Devola lock at approximately 5.5 miles into the trip with a porta john. Water and small snacks will also be available for sale. When going through the Devola lock paddlers will need to go through in groups. Be sure to ask volunteers when the lock masters lunch break is to avoid waiting at the lock.
This event is a great chance to see the historic Muskingum Lock and Dam System which is the only remaining hand-operated lock system in our country! The Muskingum River Parkway and its 160-year-old navigation system were designated a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
