Paddle together with a group from Lowell to Marietta. This will be a full-day 12-14 mile lock-through trip on the Muskingum River for hardy paddlers. Bring $5/boat for the lock fee, water, and food for the trip.
Meet at the Lowell put-in at 8:00 a.m. Take-outs available:
- Indian Acres Boat Ramp (12 Miles);
- Marietta College boathouse (13 miles); or
- Continue down to the Williamstown boat ramp (14 miles).
Kayakers may choose to stop at the Busy Bee food truck before the Lock & Dam. Note: the Lock is on the East (downstream left) side of the river.
This is a great chance to see the historic Muskingum Lock and Dam System, the only remaining hand-operated lock system in the country! The Muskingum River Parkway and its 160-year-old navigation system were designated a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers. http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/parks/parks/muskngmr/tabid/773/Default.aspx
